Educational Online Games for Kids

When it comes to learning, computer games often get a bad reputation. For us, with limits to screen time, we welcome the benefits technology. Based on research, screen media can provide learning experiences to kids.

Here are some interesting online games that kids can play, and learn at the same time.

3D Tangram Puzzles Game

Tangrams are puzzles where 7 geometric shaped pieces – triangles, square and parallelograms – are cut from a square. These puzzle pieces are called tans and a wooden version of this puzzle was originally invented in China around 200 years ago.

Tangrams can teach kids about spatial relationships, help kids learn geometric terms, and develop stronger problem solving abilities.

Online Tangram

This online game contains dozens of fun stages which your kids can play sequentially or select menu at the bottom left of the game. It is easy to play – just click on the geometric puzzle shapes and move them into position to complete the puzzles. Pieces will snap into position when they are placed correctly.

Typo Express

Good typing skills will give advantage to your child. They can get their computer tasks done faster and perform productive tasks instead of correcting errors. Typing practice need not be boring! There are plenty of typing lessons and apps.

You child can also practice typing by playing a fun game. Typo Express is a game that scores typing speed and accuracy. Words fall from the top of the screen and your child have to type the letters from left to right before the letters fall to the bottom of the screen.  The words grow longer and the letters move faster as your child advances in level.

Waffle Word Search

This is a game where kids find, and spell words in sequences of adjacent letters. It can help develop thinking skills and they shift through a pile of letters to form words. It can also help reinforce basic spelling and reading skills.

The game is easy to play – just spell words by drawing lines through the letter tiles. Spelling may be forward or backward with tiles being used vertically, horizontally, diagonally, or any combination in conjunction so long as you can draw lines directly connecting the tiles in sequence.
