Just recently, I came across Calculators.org. It is a math and educational website and has a gaming section which first focused on math games. The site then expanded out into a variety of other fun games for kids and even adults. Exploring the site, the collection has games that will remind you of classic games from your childhood. These games can now be played online. All games can be accessed online for free without requiring login or any app installation.

Here are our family’s favorite:

Minesweeper

This is an updated version of the classic game, Minesweeper. It allows you to set a playing field of 8×8 to 20×20 You can also choose the level of the game difficulty by setting between 8 and 80 mines on the board. Left click to reveal squares and right click to place flags where you are certain that there are bombs.

Battleship War

This is a modern take on the classic board game. It’s a game where you take turns shooting one missile at a time, rotating between you and your opponent. Your grid shows a red marker whenever you hit a ship & a green market where ever you have fired that did not hit a missile. When you damage an entire ship it will show a red X in each square of the ship and each adjacent square will be green, as ships must have at least 1 cell of space between them. If the ship squares do not show as red it means you still have to hit them more. It is only for one player, but has both basic and advanced modes. The advance mode allows you to send in fighter jets to hit a number of cells at once or use sonar to identify the location of a competing ship.

Classic Board Games

Yes, these are the classic favorites: Chess, Checkers, Backgammon, and Dominoes!

Playing boardgames offer opportunities for early learning. Even simple games help young players develop hand-eye coordination, dexterity in moving cards and pieces around the board, and help sharpen child’s focus.  It also teaches how to wait for your turn and follow the rules.
