Homeschool Schedule

We survive and thrive in routines. That’s why everyone is looking for that homeschool schedule to pan everything we need to accomplish for the day or for the week.

So, what’s a good homeschool schedule?

There is no one schedule that fits all. It depends on the dynamics of your family. For us, we establish a routine instead of a schedule. We plan that nothing is too specific and we can just adjust things as needed.

This is our ideal set-up but we makes changes, there are times that we need to consider doctor’s visit, parent training/ meetings, visiting relatives (now, online family calls) and the like.

Studies shows that habits and routines encourage a lifelong love of learning and kids taking responsibility for their own education.

To plan for our school year, I browse through our chosen books and look for lessons that can go together. For example, a lesson on Philippine Geography can be supported by lessons on animals (which is a current interest) or plants endemic to the country. So that’s Social Studies and Science.

As we have been more intentional on learning more about the Filipino language, aside from synchronizing our English and Filipino lessons, we read more Filipino books – stories, riddles, etc.

Arts, Music and PE can be easily intergated on different lessons. Home economics lessons are paratical life skills we can practice doing.

We usually have 2 to 3 hours everyday for academics with this routine. The rest of the time are spent playing (yes, still playing with toys – cars, lego, card games), independent readings and drawing.

Create a homeschool schedule that works for you and your child. Not what works for other families. You don’t need to do every subject every day. Identify your priorities and work with goals for the week or for the quarter.

You can download these Homeschool Calendar and Activity Tracker templates, whichever is applicable, to help you with your homeschool activities for this school year.
