DepEd School Opens Classes On August for SY 2020-21

The Department of Education (DepEd) announced that opening of classes for School Year 2020-2021 will be on August instead of June. The school year is scheduled to start on August 24, and end on April 30, 2021.

Opening school year 2020 does not mean necessarily that students will be going to school. PH Education Secretary Leonor Briones clarified that not all teachers and students will physically report to schools once classes start, due lockdowns implemented in certain areas to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Due to COVID-19 situation, with schools closed and social distancing imposed, students might have to get their lessons via television and radio.

Last month, DepEd launched its new online learning platform – DepEd Commons. This online platform for is for school teachers to support distance learning and for students to continue their lessons during the community quarantine.
